Rodino Center Gifts Policy

The Rodino Center greatly appreciates the consideration of prospective donors. However, even gifted items have associated costs that must be considered in assessing whether we can accept them, particularly print books, audiovisual materials, and technology. Gifts must be approved by the Rodino Center’s Executive Director, with the understanding that we may add them to the collection but dispose of them in the future if they do not meet our collection needs at that time. Prospective donations of significant monetary or historical value will be evaluated by Seton Hall’s Walsh Library’s archives and gallery working group. The Rodino Center reserves the right to determine the retention, location, cataloging treatment, and other considerations related to the use or disposition of all gifts.

In most cases we will not accept:

  • Paperback monographs
  • Superseded statutes or regulations
  • Case law reporters
  • Casebooks
  • Study aids

If you have materials you would like to donate:

  1. Send pictures and information about the materials to lawlibref@shu.edu to the attention of the Director of the Rodino Center.  Be as specific as you can about the materials, their size, scope, and physical condition.  It would be helpful to know how you came into possession of this object (purchase, gift, found, etc.).
  2. The library faculty will share and review this information, consulting with the Walsh Library when appropriate.
  3. After we have reached a decision, you will be contacted.
