Article Sharing Checklist

Pre-submission

  1.  ORCID - register for an ORCID ID, a unique identifier to ensure proper attribution and author association
  2. Set up your Google Scholar Author Profile with your academic email (@shu.edu).  Add articles you've authored using Google suggestions or manually.  The profile is critical for accurate impact and citation metrics.  Google Scholar pulls from SSRN, HeinOnline, and other leading publishers.
  3. Export your citations from Google Scholar and SCOPUS and import them into your ORCID ID.  The ORCID support site has instructions for exporting your works into ORCID by exporting your citations in BibTeX (you must be logged in to view this document).
  4. Review your SSRN author page for completeness and accuracy.
  5. Link your ORCID ID to your  SSRN author page.
  6. Link your ORCID ID to your Hein Author Profile

Format for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

  1. Think of the keywords you searched for your research, and make sure they are represented in the Title of your article.  Including Keywords in your Abstract is also good, Internet Search Engines like Google pay special attention to the formatted visible text at the top of a page.  Additionally, many library databases weigh these fields heavily.
  2. Write your article in Microsoft Word and enter metadata.  To enter metadata select File > Info (this is a landing page). In the second column, enter the "Title" and "Author" and enter keywords in "Tags," including cross-disciplines.
  3. Create a PDF version with text recognition for SEP and access for visually impaired readers in one easy step!  Save the final version as a PDF by selecting File > Save as Adobe PDF.  This is the simplest way to ensure that the full text can be searched for SEO and also can be read by screen readers.  Make sure your Filename is descriptive of the article.
  4. Add or correct metadata, including cross-disciplines, using the PDF properties: title, author, keywords.  Academic search engines look at the "back end" of material to determine what should appear in search results.  Go to File > Properties.  If you entered the data in Word under "Info" above, it will be pre-populated.

Submit your article

  1. Submit your article with Scholastica or as the journal submission instructions require.  Please be mindful of cost, and only submit to relevant journals and law reviews.  Speak with Amber Cain to be linked to the Seton Hall law submission account.
  2. Be aware that when you submit your article for publication consideration the submitting tool may prompt you to add it to an author page. Do not say yes unless it is publish ready.
  3. Submit pre-prints to SSRN.  Your legal support specialist or paralegal can help you with SSRN submissions.
  4. Update your faculty profile page with links to publications on SSRN by emailing citation and link to Ana Santos.

Scholastica

Seton Hall Law maintains an institutional Scholastica Account and covers submission fees. The Rodino Center administers this institutional account. When creating an account, faculty should be sure to use their @shu.edu email address in order to avoid submission fees. Your account must be connected to the institutional account. For more information about account creation or maintenance please contact Amber Cain.  If you are unsure of your authorized account email, please contact Amber Cain prior to submitting. If you have students who are looking to submit papers to journals via our institutional Scholastica account, please direct them to the library for assistance with the authorization process.

SSRN

The Rodino Center maintains the Faculty Scholarship repository on SSRN.  The library is in contact with SSRN to maintain the integrity of this repository and to disseminate SHLS faculty works.  When you submit your paper to SSRN, in order to have it included in the Seton Hall Law School, Public Law & Legal Theory Research Paper Series, do a search in the References section of the submission form for your Seton Hall Law School, select it, and Save. When submitting, please be sure to read and adhere to any copyright-related policies from both SSRN and the journal where your paper has been submitted (if any.)

Upon new publication, update your faculty profile page with links to publications on SSRN by emailing citation and link to Ana Santos.

Any administrative questions can be directed to Sara Gras and questions regarding content can be directed to the  Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Development (Margaret Lewis).

Zotero Citation Manager

What Zotero Does

Zotero (pronounced "zoh-TAIR-oh") is a Firefox addon that collects, manages, and cites research sources. It's easy to use, lives in your web browser where you do your work, and best of all it's free.

Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies.

It automatically updates itself periodically to work with new online sources and new bibliographic styles.

For more information and instructions on using Zotero, visit the LibGuide below.
